Missoula, York

Today a friend and I went to Missoula in York for lunch and and cocktail. It calls itself a American bar and grill and the interior does kind of match up to that with mix-matched chairs and booths but in a way that looks cool rather than cheesy.

We’d been before for drinks on a night out but this was the first time we tried their food, on the recommendation of a colleague. Trying to be virtuous, we both opted for salad- one steak salad with blue cheese dressing and one grilled halloumi salad, but we couldn’t resist the smell of the chips and got a portion to share… so much for the healthy diet!

imageMy halloumi salad was good but could have done with more topping as I found the raw onion a  bit too much and there wasn’t a lot of dressing which made it a little bitter. The steak looked really nicely done and did get a thumbs up from Tash. Cost wise it wasn’t too bad, about a tenner each and the service was quite quick and friendly, so it was good value I felt.

After a quick walk around York for a few errands and to try and feel less guilty about the chips, we returned to Missoula for an afternoon cocktail, which are always 2-4-1…. The main reason we’ve always come here on a night out before, and so does everyone else as it’s always busy!

I had the country garden (gin, elderflower liqueur, cucumber, mint, lime and apple juice) which tasted just like summer, while Tash had a pornstar martini. We chose to sit outside on their balcony over looking the river which was nice but the sunshine wasn’t really up to your expected July standard… This is summer in Yorkshire after all!

Overall, an absolutely great place for cocktails and an okay place for food. But most importantly, it’s always somewhere good for a catch up with friends.
