The Pit Restaurant, Harrogate

In celebration of a successful interview, the boyfriend and I headed to The Pit in Harrogate for dinner. We had walked past it plenty of times before, but today was the day for pigging out, American style!

We decided to share a Nacho Stack for starters, which was decent enough but pretty much the same as any other nacho platter and very messy. Thankfully I had opted for the Very Berry Mocktail which at least cut through the stodgy feeling of the nachos, and tasted amazing.

For mains, we both went for burgers- I had the chicken and avocado special, which was just the right amount of spice and bbq sauce and balanced well with the avocado. The boyfriend had the smoking portabella mushroom and bean burger- I tried a bit of it and it tasted very very good but was absolutely huge and defeated him in the end. We were too full to take advantage of the ping pong table upstairs, but I can see how popular it would be after a few of their yummy looking cocktails!

While I admit this is in no way fine dining, the food an drinks were good, arrived quickly and had a good atmosphere for early evening. They seemed to have a lot of different offers on for different nights which would make their drinks menu much more affordable, and the staff were great with recommendations and friendly service. I don’t think we’ll go back for a while though for two reasons. 1) my arteries might not survive another meal- the portions were humongous and burgers are not exactly healthy, and 2) there’s not great choice for the vegetarian boyfriend. I would still recommend it, just make sure you wear elasticated trousers!
