After seeing so many yummy looking restaurants when walking around Harrogate recently, we decided to try somewhere new for my birthday meal out. We eventually decided on Sukhothai. The boyfriend isn’t usually a fan of Thai food but even he admitted that this was a good one, and it did have a impressively large menu that did loads of vegetarian dishes too, which always goes down well in his books. Inside was decorated in Thai style but in a nice way rather than the tacky over the top style you sometimes get, and it had a nice atmosphere despite not being that busy.
I decided on Khanom Jeeb for starters, which was steamed pork and prawn dumplings, served in soy sauce and crispy garlic. They were fantastic little bites of flavour, a bit like Chinese dumplings but a little more spice. The boyfriend’s Tofu Tod (tofu in sweet chili and peanut sauce) also looked good, despite not liking tofu that much. For main course I had the signature dish of Pad Nam Prik Pao Phed which was stir fried duck with chilli, mushroom, spring onion, carrot and red pepper and was amazing.
The staff were really friendly and service was mostly quick (they forgot our second drinks order but was soon put right and the waitress was very apologetic), so overall a lovely evening out- we were too stuffed to try desserts but they did look good too. They also have restaurants in Leeds, Headingly and Chapel Allerton if you are interested. and I would definitely recommend them if they’re as good as Harrogate!
